Polish Cash Bid to Give City Plane Its Wings

The shell of a fighter aircraft built in Lincoln may soon be fitted with a new set of wings - in Poland. The single-seater Sopwith Camel F1 biplane, serial number B7280, was made by Clayton & Shuttleworth during the First World War, and is being restored at a Krakow museum.

British Bank Becomes Nationalised

Mortgage lender Bradford & Bingley became the second British bank to be nationalised in September. The Government took control of the bank's pounds50bn mortgages and loans, while its pounds20bn savings unit and branches were bought by Spanish banking giant Santander.

Funding for City Theatre Is Axed by Local Council

The Echo revealed how the future of Lincoln's historic Theatre Royal was hanging in the balance after councillors axed its funding. The Clasketgate theatre had relied heavily on city council subsidies for years - receiving around pounds170,000 of public money in 2008 alone.
