Football Fans Create Wave of Vandalism and Violence ; This Week in the 1970s

GANGS of chanting football fans swept through Lincoln smashing windows, wrecking cars and terrorising old people after the Lincoln vs Grimsby derby on September 29, 1971. Surging through the city's streets in a terrifying wave of violence, they hurled stones and bricks through windows of houses in Sincil Bank, threw broken paving stones through the windows of the Grand Hotel, wrecked and overturned cars and pelted a "football special" train with bricks.
