PELLETS created from straw bales at a Lincolnshire biomass plant could help generate electricity at the UK's largest coal-fired power station. Drax Power has submitted plans to West Lindsey District Council to build a biomass pellet plant on the outskirts of Gainsborough.

TRAINS on the Lincoln line were not halted despite barriers remaining up, leaving people free to cross. Lights and warning signals went off at the level crossing at Brayford Wharf East in Lincoln shortly before 4.45pm. But the barriers remained open until engineers arrived at 5.15pm.

A HIGH-performance car would not have been involved in a double fatal collision if it had been driven within the speed limit, a jury was told. The Jaguar XJ8 driven by businesswoman Mary Butres was travelling at 111mph when she lost control on the A1 southbound carriageway at Great Ponton, between Grantham and Stamford.
Forge Creates Tribute to Raf Personnel
A MEMORIAL to mark a remembrance garden for the entire Royal Air Force has been created in Lincolnshire. The lasting tribute was created at Anwick Forge in Sleaford.
AN UNEMPLOYED man was brought before court for stealing a shirt. William Ekedji, 24, of Prial Avenue, off Moorland Avenue, Lincoln, walked out of the Primark store in Lincoln's High Street without paying for the shirt on September 12.
AN OFFENDER was thrown out of his family home after missing appointments with his probation officer and a drug screening. John Godwin, 38, of Theaker Avenue, Gainsborough, was sentenced to 12 months' supervision and six months' drug rehabilitation treatment in July for possessing a Class A drug and a bladed article, against a history of drug abuse.
A WILDLIFE television presenter will officially open a new attraction tomorrow. Michaela Strachan, who is best known for her time on the Really Wild Show in the 1990s, will open the Little Darters Adventure Area at Whisby Nature Park, near Lincoln.
Man's Head Stamped On at City Pub
A MAN had his head stamped on during an altercation in a city pub. The 40-year-old man was attacked in the Jailhouse Rock pub in Clasketgate, Lincoln.
PLANS to hold a high-profile military parade in the city have been shelved by council bosses. Proposals for an event along the lines of the lucrative Edinburgh tattoo had been welcomed by city residents in a council consultation.
