Man Tried to Steal Scrap Metal
A MAN has been convicted of attempted theft after trying to steal scrap metal from private land. Lincoln Magistrates' Court heard how Shane Shillitto, 40, was spotted by the owner of Willow Bank Fisheries trying to steal scrap metal.
SHOPPERS may be forgiven for doing a double-take when they come across deckchairs, Punch and Judy and a golden sandy beach in Lincoln city centre Skegness is 40 miles away, but it seems that the best things about the Lincolnshire coast have been carefully recreated for people visiting City Square. Lincoln Business Improvement Group's beach in City Square opened yesterday. It will be in place until September 5 as part of the children and young people's festival.
Women Plead Not Guilty to Assault
A MOTHER and daughter have pleaded not guilty after being charged with assaulting a woman. Chloe Parker, 19, of Trent View in Gainsborough, was arrested for the alleged assault on July 6. Her mother Claire Parker, 45, was charged with the same offence, which happened in Queensway, Gainsborough.
Don't Be a Victim of Fall Rebate Scam
OFFICIALS are warning taxpayers in Lincolnshire about a scam in which thieves pose as the taxman to steal money. According to HM Revenue and Customs, fraudsters are making phone calls to inform taxpayers they are due a rebate before asking for their bank details.

FIRE chiefs are putting lives at risk by failing to adequately staff the county's fire stations, union bosses say. A long-running and bitter dispute over firefighters' working arrangements reignited with day crews in four towns set to no longer cover night-time fires.
A MAN was arrested for possession of drugs after being stopped for having no lights on his bike. Lincoln Magistrates' Court was told how Kenneth Duncan, 44, was spotted riding his bike at 12.30am on July 28.
Leader Calls Off Visit to Care Home
COUNTY council leader Martin Hill has called off today's visit to a care home threatened with closure. As reported in yesterday's Echo, the Conservative leader at Lincolnshire County Council was planning on speaking to staff and residents at Linelands in Nettleham, near Lincoln.
SWIMMERS in North Hykeham have helped to raise more than Pounds 2 million for cancer sufferers. The group, who splashed their way through the North Kesteven Centre's 2010 Swimathon challenge, were fundraising as part of a national effort for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
A 65-YEAR-OLD man has been banned from driving for 12 months after being convicted of drinking at the wheel. David Howard, of Hermit Street in Lincoln, admitted to having had two pints before driving his Fiat Punto on June 20 this year.
A Pounds 1.4 million Government grant helping more than 1,000 Lincolnshire schoolchildren and providing 16 jobs has been axed. The Youth Community Action programme was being piloted in the county and provided children, aged between 13 and 15, with voluntary activities in their area outside of school hours.

MANHOLE covers were stolen from an airfield. Several of the covers were taken from RAF Swinderby in Camp Road, Witham St Hughs.

New Land Will Help Get to the Root of Allotment Problem
GROWING your own vegetables could be made easier thanks to a town council's allotment plans. North Hykeham Town Council has secured a patch of land that it plans to transform into about 20 allotments.
FOUR cyclists have set off on a ride of a lifetime from John O'Groats to Land's End. Ben Gibbons, 23, Lee Coulson, 23, Sam Condon, 23, and Jonathan Moss, 25, have trained for the past year to complete the epic journey to raise money for LIVES and the Adam Gibbons Sports Foundation.

A MAN posed as a homeless person in a bid to get money from begging, a court heard. Robert Reid, 38, of Lawrence Close in Lincoln, went into the city centre with a sleeping bag and sign saying "put yourself in my shoes" so that he could earn money from passers-by, Lincoln Magistrates were told.
