THERE seems to be a widespread belief that only those middle class types without hair, teeth or their own hip joints enjoy classical music.
This couldn't be further from the truth. As a 21-year-old man I'm just as happy listening to Mozart or Elgar as I am listening to Muse or the Editors. Classical music is the purest form of music and is capable of relaxing, enlightening and evoking numerous emotions and responses. It is for this very reason that classical music is so often used in advertising, films and at sporting events. A good musical score often makes or breaks a film and very rarely is a film with mediocre music well received. Certain pieces of music in the sporting context, such as World in Union in rugby or Jerusalem in cricket also serve to inspire fans and players alike. Classical music has passed the test of time - while Mozart's compositions are still going strong, 250 years on, it is questionable whether future generations will continue to revere the work of Dizzee Rascal, the Enemy or Lady Gaga. Although some may not care to admit it, we all recognise the classic pieces, sometimes without having ever consciously listened to them.See the full content of this document
