The article about the Portland Street 'chapel cinema' (Way We Were, September 23) brought back many happy memories of my childhood.

I lived in Archer Street and was 10 years old at the time the chapel started showing films. As we had no televisions in those days, my friends and I spent many a Sunday night watching the films. But I was dismayed to read that the Mayor thought that we were children who were uncaring or unhearing of the Christian faith and did not know truth, respect or self discipline.
