TOWN PLANNING: The Tesco solution (August 27) for Sleaford''s dilemma is as useful as the emperor's new clothes.

There is very little substance to the promotional arguments of the various authorities but lots of self-interest: The council, predictably, needs Tesco cash to sponsor new housing; the highways department values free Tarmac at the expense of disability access and green spaces; Network Rail wants to close the level crossing simply to save money, whatever the effect on traffic.
