A Bitter dispute over a decision by Total to use foreign workers at a Lincolnshire oil refinery has fuelled speculation that strikes will spread "like wildfire" across the country next week unless the row is resolved.

Hundreds of Italian and Portuguese contractors are to be brought in to work on a new pounds200 million plant at the giant Lindsey Oil Refinery at North Killingholme in north Lincolnshire.
